Published Ottawa SEO prices start at about $500 to $700 a month for local work and run to $3,500 or more for growth campaigns, with institutional work higher still. Here is what Ottawa and Canadian providers publish, what each level buys, and how to compare quotes in Canadian dollars.

frex.digital has a team member in Ottawa alongside our Dubai studio, and local business owners often ask us how much SEO should cost. This guide does not show our prices. It brings together what Ottawa and Canadian agencies publish on their pricing pages and guides, so you can see the market before you compare proposals. All figures are in Canadian dollars (CAD).

The short answer

Que Media checked public Ottawa SEO prices on 29 September 2026 and found offers from $497 a month for a starter plan to $1,497 CAD a month for a broader service, with another local provider listing growth work at $1,500 to $4,000 a month. ShinobiMedia says published Ottawa retainers start at about $700 a month and the wider market runs roughly $750 to $3,500. Autimark puts standard commercial campaigns in Ottawa at $1,500 to $3,500 a month, and government or institutional SEO at $3,000 to $8,000.

Que Media makes an important point about its own survey: these are individual providers describing their own services, not an independent citywide average. Use the ranges to sense-check a quote, not to set one.

What each level typically includes

Local foundations

Google Business Profile optimisation, citation clean-up across directories, review responses, basic on-page fixes and monthly reporting on calls and forms. This suits a single location in a less crowded category.

Growth

Full keyword mapping across Ottawa areas such as Kanata, Orléans and Nepean, new or expanded service pages, technical and Core Web Vitals fixes, a few pieces of content each month and local link building. Profit Parrot describes this as the most common level for clinics, trades and law firms.

Competitive and multi-location

Content clusters, conversion rate work, digital PR, location pages for each branch and, increasingly, work to appear in AI answers. Expect the higher ranges if you compete city-wide in a crowded category.

What drives SEO cost in Ottawa

  • English and French. Ottawa–Gatineau is a bilingual market, and French searches are different queries with different results. Que Media suggests asking whether a quote includes French keyword research, writing and review.
  • Google Business Profile. For local businesses this is often the highest-leverage asset. Check that the quote covers profile optimisation, photos, posts and review responses in the language the reviewer used.
  • Competition and geography. Ranking in one neighbourhood is different from ranking across the city or the whole country.
  • Number of locations. Each branch needs its own profile, page and local signals.
  • Content volume and links. Writing and earning links are the hours that separate a starter plan from a growth plan.
  • Website condition. A slow or poorly built site needs technical work before content can perform. If a rebuild is on the table, see our guide to how much a website costs in Ottawa.
  • Regulated professions. Health professionals in Ontario answer to their regulatory college, and each college sets its own advertising standard. Check yours before approving any content.

AI search and GEO

People now get answers from Google’s AI Overviews and from assistants such as ChatGPT, not only from the list of links. Profit Parrot includes generative engine optimisation in its top tier, and Autimark lists standalone AI SEO at $1,499 to $4,999 a month. Ask whether a proposal includes AI search / GEO work, how it is measured, and whether it is an add-on. Our article on getting cited by AI explains what that work involves.

Red flags in very cheap SEO offers

  • “Full SEO” for under $400 a month, which WebDesignGuide says is generally not economically viable.
  • Full-service SEO below $500 a month, which Autimark flags for the same reason.
  • Guaranteed first-place rankings or big results in 30 days.
  • No access to your own Google Search Console and Google Analytics accounts.
  • No content production anywhere in the scope.
  • Reports that show keyword positions but never calls, forms or bookings.
  • Multi-year contracts with no performance or exit clauses.

Questions to ask before you sign

  1. Is the quote in Canadian dollars, and does it include HST?
  2. What will you deliver each month: pages, articles, links, profile updates?
  3. Does the scope cover French keyword research and French content, and who writes and reviews it?
  4. Is Google Business Profile management included for every location?
  5. Will I have admin access to Search Console, Analytics and my Business Profile?
  6. Is AI search visibility part of the scope?
  7. Is there a minimum term, and what notice is needed to stop?
  8. Who owns the content and pages if we part ways?

How to compare SEO quotes

Put the quotes side by side over the same period, for example six months, and list the deliverables on the same rows: pages optimised, content pieces, languages, links, Business Profile work and reporting. Confirm currency and tax for each one. Then compare the cost of what is actually delivered rather than the headline monthly fee. A $900 plan with no content and a $1,800 plan with four bilingual articles a month are not the same product.

Ask for a sample report from each provider. If it only shows rankings, ask how they will connect the work to calls and enquiries.

Frequently asked questions

How much does SEO cost in Ottawa?

Published Ottawa offers start around $500 to $700 a month for local SEO, and growth campaigns are listed at roughly $1,500 to $3,500 or $4,000 a month. Autimark puts government and institutional SEO in Ottawa at $3,000 to $8,000 a month.

How much does local SEO cost for a small business in Ottawa?

Published local SEO ranges for a single location run from about $500 to $1,500 a month, depending on the provider and the competition in your category. Profit Parrot lists a foundation local tier at $600 to $900 a month.

Do Ottawa SEO quotes include HST?

Not always. Some providers quote before tax and some do not state currency the same way. Ask every provider to confirm the currency and whether HST is included before you compare prices.

Do I need French SEO in Ottawa?

If you serve customers in Gatineau or francophone Ottawa, probably yes, because French searches are separate queries with separate results. Ask whether French keyword research and French content are included, and who writes and reviews them.

Is a one-time SEO audit enough?

An audit gives you a diagnosis and a list of fixes, which can be enough if your team or developer will carry out the work. Published Ottawa and Canadian audit prices range from about $500 to $6,000 depending on site size and whether fixes are included.
